Take a peek!!

I couldn't resist sharing a sampling of a room in the Doll Cottage. Actually, this photo wasn't taken in the dollhouse, but on a table where I was playing around with the furniture. It's arranged on wood flooring that will go into the house... but the red checked wallpaper won't be in that spot. Isn't the quilt on the back of the sofa adorable? The dog's name is Winston. I ordered a white wooden trunk to use as a coffee table and... well, I don't want to tell all. When I came home from the library today and saw my husband remaking the small staircase... I knew what the house needed! If he could rebuild the staircase... he could build an addition off the side of the house ( Whoops... I bought dining room furniture and there wasn't a dining room). He agreed to build it but wanted me to show him exactly what I wanted this 'wing' to look like. I did a few searches online and found this room (below) and attic space that was already to put together and attach to the side of the house. "Like this!" I shared enthusiastically. "Then why not buy it?" he replied. So, I did!

It looks so tiny but the floor dimensions are something like 8"x12". That's a good size for the kitchen. If not, it will be the bathroom. OR... maybe I should put an addition on the other side of the house to balance this and then I'd have a sewing room/scrapping room.

You know what cracked me up... my husband's concern about how the doll family was going to get into this additional room as there was no door. I tried to explain that it's just a dollhouse and they don't have a way to get into the bathroom either. Well... he's still mulling this over in his head, so we'll see what he does to ease his mind. Men are so funny! One minute he's reading a book (one of 3 thick books) on the Civil War and the next time I look up he's got a dollhouse catalog in his hands. "You've got a fireplace... you have to have a chimney!" he mumbled.

I appreciate his interest.

You realy make my day! This is such a wonderful story to read, and the stylish set-up of the furniture looks great. How sweet your husband is concerned about the residents of the dollhouse!

That is so cute. Surprising what our men take an interest in huh? Keep posting the pictures. Winston is very cute. I really like the color scheme. It would match my front room and kitchen; red walls with white wainscoting.

My 8 year old Em wanted to say, "I like the doll house. I thought the one picture that had the dog in it. I thought it looked like a real room in a real house!"

That story is adorable! It's funny how women and men's brains think of different things! LOL

The room setting you showed looks so inviting, it looks so real! I know you must be enjoying this project, it's something I've always said "One Day" I was going to do too, watching you play with your house is almost as much fun as creating one myself!

The room looks GREAT!! and I agree with your dh, if you have a chimney you need a fireplace! tee hee...

I love when my dh takes a inerest in what I am doing LOL, though sometimes he can be a bit over helpful *VBG* like when I was working out how to re-work the existing dust ruffle on the bed and I didn't have any more fabric so I had to really think,, and of course he doesn't sew LOL... yes you see the situation LOL, but you gotta love them for being interested! :O)

Joni, is your husband an engineer? lol That sounds exactly like my dh.
Your sofa looks mint green - surely it isn't! Are the cushions on the sofa from the chairs? Too many questions from me, I know.
It tickles me how you're putting room scenes together before you have your house finished. I do that too because I just can't wait for the rooms to be ready. My dh says it's because I love to arrange furniture - the furniture in our house is attached to the walls so it won't fall over during an earthquake. (The heavy mahogany pieces fell, doors were ripped off, the fridge tipped forward - big mess - in 1994)
I love the little furniture. Excellent idea to get house additions so you can keep adding rooms. You can always get another house or just make room boxes. Or have guest cottages so we can all virtually visit you.

This is adorable! I have doll house furniture sitting on a shelf - several shelves actually but haven't done anything more for them. I have to admit that I worry about things like doors on dollhouses too. The dolls have to be able to get from one room to another!

The setting for the living room is so adorable! I love the quilt on the couch. And the carpet on the floor looks like a Mary Engelbreit design. It's so lovely...I would move right in!

I had made a gigantic dollhouse a few years ago, the entire outside was done, all I needed to do was electrify it and finish it, but when I got married, I decided to give it away. I'm kicking myself now for not keeping it. I have a dollhouse kit in the closet that I would love to do, but just don't have the ambition. The decorating is the fun part.
